Tomorrow is National STEM/STEAM Day!
There are so many important reasons to celebrate this day. STEAM encourages innovation, creativity, experimental learning, problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. These are the skills of the future, (and the present, let's be honest), and the more we're able to expose our students to all that STEAM brings to our lives, the better.
Here are a few links to inspire you and help you celebrate STEAM in your classroom today, no matter what you teach:
  • The Learning Counsel - They offer 5 ways to celebrate this fun day. This site offers simple ideas to bring STEAM into your classroom that are even more relevant today.
  • Left Brain Craft Brain - This page has some great STEAM crafts that will be fun even after today. Number 3 is a great one that is all about recycling and cars - sounds fun to me!
  • History of STEAM education in the US - Ever wondered where all the emphasis on STEAM education came from? Well, this is the link for you.
Enjoy the day.  We hope you're able to experiment and celebrate all that STEAM brings into the lives of our students.

Students connect to save the planet

NPR reports on Drawdown Learn conference, held in NY weeks after the UN General Assembly had students all over the world standing up for the environment. This is a great read about how students use their voice and interest in STEM to make a difference.
