Let's wrap up the year with questions that dive into all the good, bad and the not so pretty that happened the last few months. You will then set yourself up for a break where you can relax and know you're ready for the new year.

"The more reflective you are, the more effective you are. "

-Hall and Simeral

Just a spoonful of reflection

The end of the year is upon us, and it's hard to believe all that's happened so far. When you step back for a moment, you will see that you've experienced some pretty amazing things this year. There were some great things, some less than great and probably some pretty awful things as well. But it all matters. It's all part of the amazing story of our life. The power of all of the detail comes when we take time to reflect on all that happened.

Successful educators will take the time to look at themselves in the mirror to do two things:
  • Praise the successes in order to replicate them
  • Analyze the failures to see where things went wrong and change the approach to increase success.
Our newest blog, Reflective Teaching at the End of the Year, offers questions to help you frame your professional reflection. We encourage you to take a few minutes before you head out on your well-deserved winter break to think about all that you've done in 2019. This exercise will allow you to set yourself up for success when you return, and will help you ensure that you can get all the details out of your brain and relax for a little bit.  You definitely deserve that!

Teaching Gratitude this Season

In the spirit of self-reflection and taking a look at all you've done, we're sharing an article from Edutopia about encouraging our students to have a sense of gratitude. This is a great piece with ideas for incorporating gratitude in many aspects of your day, from letters to secret acts of kindness. Think of this as a way to refresh your thinking and up your own gratitude game. After all, they do what we do, not necessarily what we say.
